What's holding you back?

I'll get straight to the point with this one...it's you!


Now, I know that is a tough pill to swallow, so grab a glass of water and tune in with me for a few minutes.


I have worked with clients who are what most organizations would consider top, right on the 9-box (Not sure what a 9-box is? Read more here. I'll also tell you why I hate it in a later post).


These women are strong leaders, execution-focused, and drive themselves and entire teams toward successful outcomes. They manage their households, care for elders, contribute to their communities, and are all around loving, giving humans. So, how do we end up working together? Because they want more...more organization, more structure, more time for their wellness, more fulfillment in their lives, more freedom to do what their hearts desire, more time to self-reflect and decide what they want to do next, more life!


And, what is their biggest obstacle? They, correction we, because I've been there a time or ten, want to keep doing the same things we have always done while expecting a different result. That same thing might be spreading ourselves thin and expecting to find time to do more, sacrificing our own well-being to ensure everyone else is okay and still expecting to pour from an empty cup, or giving 110% to that corporate day job and expecting to have even 10% to give to our small business that we are trying to get off the ground.


So, how do we break these habits that do not serve us? Well, the first step really is awareness. Ask yourself what's getting in the way or what's stopping me from accomplishing this goal that I have? Once you have some awareness around what's getting in the way, ask what part am I playing in this? What actions am I taking that support this obstacle, how have I been rewarded when I act this way, or how have I been punished when I don't act this way? These are the ways that we build habits, through action that is reinforced through reward or punishment, so understanding these things helps to understand how the habit was built. Understanding how the habit was built is one of the first steps to understanding how to change it.
